Webber looking to recover

Mark Webber said he was focusing on recovering from the gearbox problem which prevented him doing any running during the morning practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Webber only completed three installation laps in first free practice as he got stuck in sixth gear and was consigned to the garage for the rest of the session. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner confirmed that the team changed the gearbox between sessions, and Webber said it was then important that he didn't push too hard in an attempt to make up for lost time.

"I had a gear selection issue this morning, which meant I lost some lap time," Webber said. "Otherwise it wasn't too bad. This afternoon was always going to be the case where you're going out a little bit behind, but we still got a lot of good information. It's easy to get out there and try and get to where you should be and make mistakes, but we got the information and have a lot to go through."

Webber also said that he would be looking to the final free practice session on Saturday morning as a chance to recover the time that was lost ahead of qualifying. "We missed 40 laps this morning and you are not going to get that back overnight, so we need to get back into the groove a little bit on Saturday morning and hopefully we can get back in business on Saturday afternoon, and then recover."
