Vettel pleased with tyres

Sebastian Vettel said he was happy with the Pirelli tyres following Thursday's free practice sessions for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Vettel was quickest in the morning session on the soft compound, and then fifth fastest in the afternoon as the drivers all tried qualifying simulations on the super-soft tyre. The reigning world champion said that it was easy to get both tyres up to working temperature, and that they were lasting for a number of laps too.

"I think not bad, it's been positive so far," Vettel is quoted by Autosport. "Both tyres are working and that is most important thing, and lasting pretty well. We will see how the conditions are on Sunday. If it's similar to today then the super soft seems to be preferred tyre for qualifying. You can extract most time from it, so no dramas today."

Vettel said that he had managed to get in to the rhythm around the streets very quickly, but that certain areas of the track were even more bumpy than previous years.

"I think we had a good day so far. Obviously it was important to do a lot of laps here and I had a good feeling straight away. It is fun around here. It is a different track, very bumpy and very rough, and some places on the track they have resurfaced but I don't think they have made it better. It is even worse. It is interesting. Ferrari looks very competitive but all in all everyone is really close to each other."
