Sebastian Vettel has said a win at the Monaco Grand Prix would mean a lot to him, but will not prioritise Sunday's race over what is best for his championship.
Vettel has won four of this year's five races, but is the only driver among the top five in the championship who has not won on the streets of Monte Carlo.
Asked if the lack of a Monaco victory is a hole in his repertoire, Vettel was quoted by the BBC as saying: "No, it's not a hole. The history of the grand prix and the tradition is huge and it would be a huge honour to put my name on that list of winners around here. We are driving for the championship that is more important but this is one of the races that as a driver would mean a lot to me."
Last year Vettel finished second to team-mate Mark Webber, but Red Bull found some minor damage to his chassis after the race which may have explained his dip in form at that stage of the season. On Wednesday Vettel said a small problem makes a big difference on the street circuit.
"This is a track where the driver can make a difference," he said. "But it's not always black and white. It is a long weekend, there might be things that are bothering you and you have to carry them through the weekend with you. The focus is very intense and you need to concentrate."
Vettel made clear that he thinks pole position will be important at this year's race, but reckons the tyres, especially the super-soft compound which has not been raced, will make for an exciting afternoon.
"It's very tight, there's not a lot of space and the higher up you can qualify, the better your chances on Sunday," he added. "But we've seen some crazy races this year with the tyres and we don't know yet what to expect here or how many pit stops there will be."
