Paul di Resta is looking forward to renewing his rivalry with Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton as soon as possible and is not fazed by their recent achievements in Formula One.
Di Resta, who signed for Force India on Wednesday, raced against both world champions earlier in his career, following Hamilton through Formula Renault and into the F3 Euroseries and beating Vettel in a straight fight as his team-mate in the 2006 F3 Euroseries championship.
However, from that point onwards his career took a very different trajectory as Vettel and Hamilton moved closer to F1 with backing from Red Bull and McLaren respectively and di Resta had to take a drive in DTM. The Scot said he is looking forward to rejoining battle with the pair in 2011.
"I don't want to sound big-headed, but I wasn't racing them when they won their championships," he said. "We've had some great battles in the past. Hopefully I'll get a repeat of that in the future."
He added that Vettel and Hamilton simply got "luckier" on their route to F1.
"I wouldn't say it's been frustrating, [but] they've had it easier than me. They had different backing and that got them there a bit quicker. Looking at it they were luckier than I am, but I've got there."
His first target in F1, however, will be to beat his experienced team-mate Adrian Sutil, who he also raced against in the junior series.
"I would hope to be on the same pace as him or quicker than him from the start," di Resta said.
