Perez's heavy accident during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix left him with concussion and forced him to miss the race the following day as he was kept in hospital for two further nights. As a result of missing a grand prix Perez was required to undergo medical examination before being allowed to participate in Montreal this weekend. Perez said he had been given clearance by the FIA's medical delegate Jean-Charles Piette and would be back in the car for the first practice session on Friday.
"I've had the tests with the FIA. It was a very good examination as they checked all my bones, my memory, my reaction," Perez said. "We also gave them the results from our doctors, and everything is fine for me to race this weekend.
"After the accident I felt dizzy, which is why I stayed another day in hospital, but we were always positive there would be enough time to recover ahead of this race. There was nothing damaged, no problems at all, so it was only a matter of time to return to normal life."
