Mark Webber said he was pleased for the team to lock out the front row of the grid "after all the talk" as he qualified in second place for the European Grand Prix.
A ban on changing engine maps between qualifying and the race was expected to hamper Red Bull and bring an end to its dominance of qualifying. Webber and team-mate Sebastian Vettel have continuously said that everyone would be affected, and so it proved as Vettel took pole and Webber pulled out a good lap at the end of Q3 to secure second. Webber said he was pleased to put in a good performance and silence the doubters.
"It was pretty good to be honest," Webber said. "I think as Seb [Vettel] touched on you've got so many corners here you'd like to put all of them together perfectly from all of your runs I suppose, but that's not the case, we've got to try and do our best to put them together when it counts. I hadn't had the smoothest build-up in to Q3 so the guys did a good job to recover with me and I knew there was some more to come on the last lap just had to put it all together.
"It's still not easy, it still was a pretty good lap and it was nice to go a little bit quicker in the last sector to put that one together; Seb's a little bit stronger in the first two but in the end a great day for the team. Off the back of all the talk, nice to come here and do well today of course it's no points today so looking forward to tomorrow's race and we'll go from there."
