-->It's another Friday in Formula One town, which can mean only one thing – action, action, action.
This fine Friday in late June provides us F1 addicts with the first and second practice sessions of the fourth European Grand Prix to take place in Valencia. As we commented yesterday, this weekend is the time for Valencia to shine, shine, shine. In terms of Spain's cities, this weekend should prove that Valencia is not always prepared to be the bridesmaid. It should come forward, staking its place as the Grand Prix of Europe loud and proud.
This year is a real chance for this race to do just that: the conditions are hot which could cause some high tyre degradation, the medium Pirellis are being used for the first time and the circuit will feature two DRS zones. This is a recipe for a far more exciting race than we have seen before here.
Throw into the equation the Engine Mapping rule tweaks imposed by the FIA and we could just have an upset on our hands this weekend. An upset that could throw open the Formula One title race a little more. An upset that could tune more people into a season that has already been intensely gripping. An upset that could just say it's not all Vettel, Vettel, Red Bull, Red Bull.
Hang on, hang on…unless I'm very much mistaken I hear the roar of the engines. Practice has begun. So if you don't mind, I think we better just go and see what's going on out there. Hasta la vista!
