Webber not expecting turnaround

Mark Webber says he doesn't expect the ban on engine map changes to shake up the order at the European Grand Prix.

The FIA wrote to the teams earlier in the week informing them that they will no longer be allowed to change engine map settings between qualifying and the race. McLaren had previously said that Red Bull's use of the engine mapping could be the reason that the difference between the two is so big in qualifying, but with all of the teams attempting to get maximum performance out of the engine in qualifying trim, Webber said the front three would remain as they are.

"It's nothing new to our team to adapt to a change in regulations," Webber said. "I don't think it will turn the field upside down. Ferrari, McLaren and us are quick. It would have been cost-effective to know this before the season had started as everyone was already looking at it at the end of last year. So it's not a trivial thing to introduce into the middle of the season but we are all in the same boat and will adjust. But we are not overly concerned. We have to get on with it."

Webber also appeared to be critical of the impending ban on off-throttle blown diffusers, and said he felt that it was unlikely to improve the show for spectators.

"I think the majority of fans aren't that bothered, they want to see what they've seen this year - good car races. They have 10-15% knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes, you have the hardcore fans who understand a bit more, but fans want to see a good car race. The politics in the background will always be there, but they are making these decisions for whatever reason it is."
