Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has said that Ferrari must attack for the rest of the season to apply pressure to Red Bull and McLaren.
Having endured a relatively disappointing start to the season, Ferrari has been more competitive of late, especially the last two grands prix when Fernando Alonso finished second in Monaco and then Alonso and Felipe Massa qualified second and third in Montreal. The race in Canada was less successful, however, as Alonso retired following contact with eventual race winner Jenson Button and Massa had to settle for sixth after hitting the wall late on.
With Ferrari 154 points behind Red Bull and Alonso 92 points off championsip leader Sebastian Vettel, Domenicali said that the team needs to continue the improvement, ignore the standings and focus on attacking at each race to try and force those in front in to errors.
"When you have days like this you want to turn the page immediately, forgetting the negatives and hanging on to the positive aspects," Domenicali told the official Ferrari website. "Partly down to the characteristics of the track and also because of all the work we are doing, we are beginning to see the benefits of our efforts, as was the case in Monaco and also in Montreal where we were competitive enough to fight for the win. We must continue down this path, because sooner or later the results will come.
"Now there is no point looking at the classifications in both championships, as it does not make sense at the moment. We must act like football teams who find they have dropped behind and play every match in an attacking manner, only going for the win. Then, if the others slip up and the situation changes, we will see where we are."
