Massa credits track conditions

Felipe Massa said he was able to set the fastest time of the second practice session for the British Grand Prix because he was on track with the best conditions.

Massa's time of 1:49.967 was 0.777s quicker than Nico Rosberg in second place, as the majority of the action occurred during the final 20 minutes following heavy rain earlier in the session. Massa said that he was conserving his tyres in case there was further rain later in the weekend, and that his headline time was due to the fact that he set it so late.

"I just used one set of tyres so it was the same set as this morning," Massa said. "You don't want to really use the tyres in these conditions because if it's raining tomorrow we need to use the tyres so we didn't really run so much just to have all of the tyres in a good condition for Saturday and Sunday. So I used the same set and it was the last lap and the track was getting better because it was the last lap of the day."

Massa also said that it wasn't a concern that he had been unable to do any dry running because the whole grid was in the same boat.

"Well I mean we start [the first dry session] really in the condition that we start first practice. We put what we think what works for the dry, but we haven't tried it yet. So it's the same for everybody, it's not like somebody drove in the dry and you haven't, it's the same for everybody so everybody starts in the same conditions. If it's dry just for qualifying or just for the race I hope we find the right direction and we have the best setup and the best configurations possible for the dry conditions."
