Jenson Button is hoping that the pace he enjoyed at the Monaco Grand Prix earlier this year will surface again ahead of his 200th grand prix start at the tight and twisty Hungaroring this weekend.
The circuit outside Budapest is often compared to Monte Carlo as it puts similar demands on the car, and as Button took part in a tight three-way battle for the lead in Monaco he is hoping for more of the same in Hungary.
"The MP4-26 was very competitive in Monaco a couple of months ago and I hope it will be a similar situation this weekend because the Hungaroring has many of the same performance criteria," he said.
"The hot weather conditions make this one of the most gruelling races of the year for the drivers. Cockpit temperatures regularly exceed 50 degrees and we're always pulling g-force in the car because there are so many corners. It's tough, but this is definitely a circuit when all the training pays dividends."
Button has failed to score points at the last two rounds after a wheel nut came loose at a pit stop in Britain and his car suffered a hydraulics problem in Germany. The McLaren driver is hoping his luck changes this weekend for his milestone race.
"I can't believe I've already knocked up a double-ton of F1 starts because I don't feel a day older than when I made my debut back in 2000!
"After a premature end to my race at the Nurburgring, I'll be hoping for better luck at the Hungaroring."
