Cash-strapped HRT denies team is up for sale

The struggling HRT team has denied that the team is up for sale despite reports to the contrary from Spanish sports newspaper AS.

Although new investment from former Telefonica boss Juan Villalong has led to talks with other potential investors, no deals have been made.

"Jose Ramon Carabante and his equity partners have put up the team for sale," said AS. "It is evident that if Carabante finds a buyer he will dispose of the team."

Having parted company with partner Toyota Motorsport, the paper added that HRT has been left with "no car, no base, no drivers, no sponsors - only a Cosworth engine."

In reaction to the report, HRT denied that their Spanish owners had put the team up for sale.

"The team is not on sale, we are working for 2011," an HRT spokeswoman said. "Carabante is working on getting sponsors and investors. One Spanish group is interested in joining the team but things are not so easy nowadays in the world."

One fact that is for certain is that HRT is still to confirm its two drivers for 2011 with team boss Colin Kolles stating he is in no rush to announce his decision.

"We are not necessarily in a hurry, the deadline is three days before the first race," Kolles told 422race.com. "The 2011 car? We will have one. And we are in the process of manufacturing it."
