Sebastian Vettel said the wet conditions on Friday made it difficult to understand the full effect of the ban on off-throttle blown diffusers at the British Grand Prix, but is happy with the balance of his car.
The FIA has introduced a restriction on the use of exhaust gases to increase the performance of the diffuser when the driver is off throttle this weekend, and there had been speculation that it might hit championship leaders Red Bull the hardest. Put simply, the ban will reduce the level of downforce at the rear under braking and has the potential to upset the balance of the car in corners.
But after two wet practice sessions on Friday, Vettel said he was none the wiser about how much his car would suffer compared to his rivals.
"The circuit was changing a lot today, so it was hard to find out too much and understand the effect of the changes introduced this weekend, but we will learn more tomorrow," he said. "I was happy with the car today and the balance, even in these conditions."
On a lighter note, Vettel has changed his helmet design yet again this weekend as a way of showing his gratitude for his team's hard work.
"I have all the pit crew on my helmet at this year's race, their local race, to say thank you for all their hard work."
