Bernie Ecclestone will learn later today if he will face charges in Germany in connection with a massive corporate corruption case.
Prosecutors have been gathering evidence in an attempt to link Ecclestone with the payment of a $50 million payment to Gerhard Gribkowsky, a former banker, during the sale of Formula One to CVC Capital Partners. Gribkowsky has already been arrested accused of tax evasion and fraud.
Ecclestone told the Times he was waiting to hear. "I have done nothing so I have no idea what charges they could bring," he said. "I have done what I had to do at all times during this investigation and I have co-operated fully with the people in Germany. As far as I am concerned, there are no problems."
Ever since the investigation was launched Ecclestone, who has protested his innocence throughout, has cooperated with the authorities, travelling to Munich in April to meet with them.
