Liuzzi to test for HRT over weekend

Tonio Liuzzi is set to test for HRT at Barcelona over the weekend.

"Our target is to get the best possible package," said team principal Colin Kolles. "Tonio is a strong contender for the second seat given that he has a lot of experience in Formula One. We hope his comments and feedback will help the team to progress in the right direction."

"It is a team with potential that can grow in the future and could have a good package for the season with the new car," Liuzzi said. "There is still a lot to do because we are starting tomorrow with the first test, but there will be a lot to come. I am sure it will be a good day and I am looking forward to the next step."

HRT is the only team not to have named both its drivers for the coming season. It signed Narain Karthikeyan last month, largely because of the substantial sponsorship he brought with him, but its attempts to find a heavily-backed team-mate have proved unsuccessful.

Despite being contracted to drive for Force India in 2011, Liuzzi was replaced by Paul di Resta and is therefore available. He was tentatively linked with the vacancy at Renault caused by Robert Kubica's accident, but with Nick Heidfeld taking that slot, Liuzzi is again up for hire.

Liuzzi would bring much-needed experience to the HRT team. Although Karthikeyan has driven in Formula One before, it was six years ago and was hardly an outstanding success.
