Mark Webber says that if Red Bull can win the Italian Grand Prix it would be a "massive psychological blow" to McLaren and Ferrari.
With Sebastian Vettel holding a 92 point lead in the driver's championship and Red Bull 131 points clear in the constructor's standings with seven races left, both are closing in on securing the titles. Having completed a one-two at Spa, Webber said in his BBC column that if Red Bull could take victory at Monza then it would be worth more than just the 25 points on offer.
"McLaren and Ferrari will be going to Italy this weekend thinking they have as good a chance there as anywhere to beat us," Webber said. "So if we can pull out another strong result this weekend, it would be like what in football they call a six-pointer - when you beat a team that is fighting for the same thing as you. And it wouldn't just help us mathematically; it would be a massive psychological blow to our rivals as well at this point of the season."
Despite targeting a Red Bull victory, Webber admitted that another win for Vettel would not be good for him on a personal level.
"I'm still in the championship fight with Seb [Vettel], albeit a long way behind in second position, so it's not good for me if he gets a top result at Monza. But overall for the team it would be brilliant. Pretty soon, the others are just going to run out of races."
