Renault has been granted planning permission to build a new simulator at its headquarters in Enstone, Oxfordshire.
Simulators have become an important development tool for big teams in recent years and are used to test new concepts away from the track and work on setups for specific circuits. Renault expects to have its simulator up and running by March 2012.
"We're very pleased that planning permission has now been granted and we can begin the latest phase in our development at Enstone," team principal Eric Boullier said. "We've already stated the level of our ambition with the upgrading of our wind tunnel from 50% to 60% and the development of our new supercomputer for CFD computer simulations. The confirmation that our simulator is on the way is further evidence of our continued investment for the future."
The statement added that work on the new simulator will start imminently and that it will be located next to the wind tunnel.
