Renault boss Eric Boullier believes Romain Grosjean is ready to return to Formula One after easing his way to the GP2 title over the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
Grosjean raced for Renault in 2009 as a replacement for Nelson Piquet Jr but failed to score a point with a best finish of 13th. In 2010 he lost his drive to Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov as the team changed ownership and this year he returned to GP2 for a full season with DAMS - a team with strong links to Renault.
The Frenchman, who is also Renault's third driver, has dominated the F1 feeder series over the past four months with five victories and nine podiums overall. After sewing up the title at the Belgian Grand Prix with third place in the feature race, Boullier believes Grosjean has done enough to be offered a second chance in Formula One.
"He did it all in the correct manner which is very important," Boullier said. "Everybody is talking about him in the paddock now; he became the new GP2 champion three races before the end, which is impressive. He's done a good job in that discipline and I think he's now ready to step back into Formula One."
