Button bamboozled by Vettel's lap

Jenson Button said he was at a loss to explain Sebastian Vettel's performance during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix after the Red Bull clocked a lap 0.502 faster than his.

Button still managed to take third on the grid, but said Red Bull's performance in the final sector in particular was surprising as its cars were running a lower drag rear wing than McLaren.

"Even if we got a little bit more out of the car we were never going to challenge Seb, they were very fast today," he said. "The strange thing is that these guys don't look like they're carrying a lot of wing but they're half a second quicker than us in the last sector, which is the high-speed corners. Difficult to understand, but that's something we'll have to look at."

However, he said qualifying off the front row was not a disaster as the DRS should allow for overtaking in Sunday's race.

"I think we've got to concentrate on tomorrow now and look forward to a good race," he said. "We're both in great positions and I think we can score some good points here. It's not so important to be on pole position here like in previous years because we have the DRS, so we'll see."
