Robert Kubica has undergone an operation on his right elbow which doctors have descrived as "a total success".
Kubica sustained life-threatening injuries in a rally accident in February, and has since had to have numerous operations as part of the recovery process. The latest procedure, aimed at recovering the full mobility of his right elbow, was Kubica's final operation, which will allow him to follow a more rigorous rehabilitation programme. In a press release Renault said that all had gone smoothly and Kubica would remain in hospital for a few days.
"Robert underwent one last scheduled operation in Italy, aimed at recovering the full mobility of his right elbow. The surgeons are happy to report that they have been able to complete 100% of their task and did not encounter any complications. They have described the outcome of the operation as "a total success"… He will now rest in hospital for a few days before resuming his rehabilitation and training programme."
Kubica's manager Daniele Morelli told Rai television that he is sure Kubica will be able to return to Formula One, and expects to be able to put a timeframe on it in the next six weeks.
"The function is good and now we enter the last phase; the recovery of the arm through specific training," Morelli said. "I can say with certainty that Robert will be able to race again. Let's let nature take its course because the boy needs to recover his full strength. After months of surgery that's obvious and normal. Within a month, a month and a half, we will know when he can get back on track."
