Sauber happy to develop rookies

Sauber team principal Peter Sauber has said that his team is the best place on Formula One for rookie drivers to learn their trade.

Mexican Sergio Perez has impressed so far in his debut season, while Kamui Kobayashi only had two races under his belt when he joined the team last year, but has consistently delivered notable performances. In the past Sauber have also given debuts to the likes of Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel.

Sauber told Sonntagsblick that taking on young drivers is risky, but that the team was reaping the rewards.

"I am particularly pleased that once more it has paid off to work with young drivers," Sauber said. "To go with a rookie is always a risk, but it has worked for us again this time.

Sauber also said that the structure of the team helps turn exciting prospects in to consistent Formula One drivers.

"It's not just about making the right choice, but just as much important to give them an environment where they can develop. I think that without exaggeration I can say that for a F1 rookie there is no better place than Sauber."
