Crash 'not a problem'

Sebastian Vettel says that the crash he had during first practice for the Turkish Grand Prix will not cause a problem for the rest of the weekend.

During a wet session, Vettel went out on intermediate tyres and ran slightly wide on to the kerb on the exit of turn 8. The wet kerb caused him to lose control of his car at high speed and his Red Bull spun in to the barriers, heavily damaging the right hand side of the car and breaking both the front and rear suspension. Despite not getting out for the second practice session of the day, Vettel played down the lack of running.

"It makes it a bit more difficult, no doubt, but I don't think it will be a problem," Vettel said. "We know the track quite well from the past years, and in the end it was only one afternoon we had in the dry. We'll see. I'm still confident for tomorrow. Everything is open. It looks fairly close and I think it will be quite exciting tomorrow."

Vettel also apologised to his engineers, but said that first and foremost he was pleased to have sustained no injuries in the incident.

"You could see there was nothing I could do to stop the car from hitting the wall, so I think the most important thing is that I'm fine. Unfortunately we couldn't get the car ready in time. There was a little bit too much damage. I'm sorry for the guys. I apologised because it was not my intention to damage the car. But this is racing and it can happen. I think the most important is that we are still here."
