Australia performance a one-off

Mark Webber has no doubts that his poor performance in Australia was a one-off and is keen to put it behind him with a better showing in Malaysia this weekend.

Webber finished fifth at his home race two weeks ago while his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel cruised to victory, 38 seconds further down the road. A post-mortem of his car after the race flagged a number of set-up issues which have been addressed for this weekend.

When asked in the Sepang paddock if he thought the problems would be resolved this weekend, Webber was reported by ITV as saying: "Totally, yeah."

He added: "There were a few issues that we found post-race which certainly did not help the situation. I'm not going to go into it too much further than that. We'll have to do a better job this weekend, get more out of the car and hang out at the front like we normally have been. I'm not going to make a meal of what happened in Melbourne. Let's talk about Malaysia."

Christian Horner told Autosport: "There were a few issues on the post-mortem that we could see had contributed. I think probably the most telling one was an issue with a rear damper that definitely at some point of the race had happened. We have obviously replaced all the components and I think we have a fairly good understanding as to why, and hopefully he will be back to his usual form this weekend."

He said he was not convinced his team-mate Vettel was quite as far ahead as it looked in Australia.

"I don't know about a different league," he said in response to a question about the gap to Red Bull's rivals. "In quali, yes, but Lewis [Hamilton] didn't have too bad a race."

He added: "We did well here last year, the car just won the last grand prix so we will see," he said. "It is pretty brutal on the track temperature; it will be interesting on the tyres. No one knows how that will unfold."
